HOSPITALITY
The Grosvenor
St Kilda, Victoria
With the new refurbishment of the Grosvenor Hotel restaurant and
bar in St Kilda East the design intent was to create an extension
of one's home.
Red Design Group’s interior designer Emma Schaeche set out to enhance
the original features from the 1800’s building, such as the striking
timber beams throughout the bar area and the tall cathedral like ceiling
and mix them with the new aspects of an urban, raw and honest feel.
Inspiration for the interior was drawn from the surrounding suburbs
of St Kilda and Balaclava as well as our client's rich Italian background.
The main structural change was creating the al fresco area that faces Brighton Rd.
The facade was demolished to incorporate a bar that connects through the space,
back to the interior.
This would form a relaxed atmosphere that would attract a range of people, whether
for drinking or eating by keeping it simple, honest and introducing a sense of
quality to the various spaces.
The dining room with its al la carte menu is an authentic, rich and satisfying
representation of a European classic. Banquette seating frames the room with
louvered windows allowing silhouette views out.
The kitchen reflects an Italian home and displays all of the antipasti, including
an assortment of hanging cured meats, cheese and desserts, with the focal piece,
a mosaic tiled wood fired pizza oven.
